I am a Pisces who loves watermelon lemonade. As a kid I dreamed of being a mermaid – but soon realized I could only spend so much time in the bath tub with a pillowcase on my legs before I got waterlogged. I soon had a new dream when I received my first camera in high school – I wanted to be a photographer…or maybe an anesthesiologist…or a travel writer. Needless to say I didn’t go to medical school, and while I did do some traveling I didn’t have the patience to turn my journals into books.  Now I am pursuing my dream with camera in hand.

I have the driest skin in the world! When I moved to Idaho in the middle of winter, my dry skin flared up even more!

While doing research (aka googling) ways to alleviate my dry skin – especially on my face, I came across a website dedicated to the Oil Cleansing Method. Basically, you wash your face with a mixture of oils to help break down the oil on your face and remove your makeup (works fabulous for waterproof eye makeup).

Here is my oil mixture and face washing routine:

Oil Mixture (1 day a week because Castor Oil is drying):
• 80% Extra Virgin Olive Oil (to cleanse and moisturize)
• 10% Tea Tree Oil (for its anti-bacterial properties)
• 10% Castor Oil (for black heads, oil, dirt, etc.)

Oil Mixture (3 days a week):
• 85% EVOO
• 15% Tea Tree Oil

Exfoliating Mixture (3 days a week):
• Raw Honey (to cleanse and moisturize)
• Mixture of baking soda and Steel cut oats (to cleanse and exfoliate)

It may take a few tries to come up with the perfect mixture for your skin – but this is what I find works best for my super dry skin.

First, I remove eye makeup with EVOO on a cotton ball. Then, I massage my face with my oil mixture for around a minute. During this time, I have a wash cloth soaking in hot water which I then gently place on my face until it cools down. Then, I soak it again and run all the oil, dirt, and makeup off of my face.

To exfoliate, I first rub raw honey on my face (the more you rub the warmer and easier it will be to spread), then I rub the baking soda/oatmeal mixture on my face. I then let this mask sit on my face for 5-10 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Because my skin is so dry, I then use an oil mixture to moisturize (Jojoba oil, tea tree, and EVOO). My skin is so soft, clean, and glowing now! I Love it! I don’t think I will ever go back to commercial cleansing products for my face ever again!

Can I just say that I hate working out. There, it’s out there – I will admit it. I cringe at the thoughtof having to work out – I would rather wash windows than workout. And I hate washing windows – it is the equivalent of torture to me. Am I getting my point across here? :)

That being said, I was first introduced to Pilates on a Reformer in September 2011 when I went to Florida to visit one of my best friends. She is a Pilates teacher out there and I went to a couple classes she was teaching. I loved rolling around the reformer machine rather than doing Pilates on the mat because it was just fun and took my mind off the fact that I was working out.

So once I started commuting to Fresno for work, I looked for a Pilates studio with reformer machines – because there was no way I was going to even think about going to a mat class ever again (yes, the reformer is that fun). And that was when I found Brandy of Brand E Pilates. I know nothing about Pilates – just that I like the machines. It was obvious that everyone in the class had been going for awhile, so I felt a little bit like an outsider but they quickly welcomed me as one of their own. And Brandy is a fantastic instructor and very patient with me when I have no idea what I am doing, or when I am about to fall off the box. Because lets get real – I have lost my balance and almost fallen a couple times. When that happens I act that I still have my s*it together and hope that no one saw.

Classes are an hour long and it goes by so so fast! Except for when we do abs – then it feels like forever because I have the weakest abs in the world!

Be sure to check out the Brand E Pilates website to view pictures of what the studio looks like and what its like during class – I had the opportunity in April to take some pictures of classes for her website :) You can also find the studio on Facebook!

If you are interested in coming out to a class with me let me know! I just started going again after a couple month hiatus and I would love to have you along with me! And Pilates is the perfect way to get toned up for your wedding!
