I love collecting ideas and things that inspire me – ever since I was a child. I used to have folders of pages torn from my moms Home Decor Magazines; style inspiration torn from fashion magazines; and makeup looks that I would some day try. All these pages were put in neatly label folders – which were then put in a box – and when I finally moved overseas after college – most (except a few home decor and architecture pages) were finally thrown away.

That is why I L-O-V-E Pinterest! I can keep all of my inspiration neatly organized on boards – no more folders that are overflowing and (this is my favorite) no more Bookmarks on my computer that I can’t seem to keep organized or ever find again! In fact, when I opened my Pinterest to get a screen shot – I saw a new pin that I was quickly able to re-pin to my Studio Inspiration Board – see – soooo simple.

For my mom’s birthday I decided to head up to visit her and dad in Idaho. They moved from California up there a couple years ago to retire and are loving every minute of it! Our family friend Bob flew from LAX with me which made the trip that much more memorable! The week was full of duck and goose hunting; viewing images from the trail camera trying to track down an elk; and blood pressure parties (it’s what happens after a night of drinking and sushi). I was especially happy to be able to visit with my dog Scruffy who is now living in Idaho with my mom and keeping her company while my dad is out hunting/fishing.

It’s coming upon the end of the year – family, holidays, eating delicious food, and spending way to much money. But there is something else that I (and I am sure a million other be do) around this time of year. I look back – look back at the past year, the goals I had set for myself, my failures and my accomplishments.

I had lofty goals for myself this year – and in all honestly, I feel like I failed 90% of them. One goal in particular was to shoot 12 weddings – I only did 9 – 3 short of my goal!! And I feel like giving up. I shouldn’t – but the feeling that I am just not good enough keeps creeping into the back of my head. I looked at my husband the other night and just burst into tears – but then he reminded that just because I didn’t reach the number of 12, I still reached 9 and I accomplished and learned so many things.

Another failed goal was to blog more. Honestly – it scares me. English was a class that I made it through but never excelled in – I will never write a novel. I am terrified that I won’t have any thing interesting to say. But I have decided that I will no longer be scared – that I will face that fear and be me. Write about what interests me and stirs my creativity.

I have started setting my goals for 2012 – both personal and business -  and I am scared of failing again – of feeling disappointed in myself. But I won’t let that stop me from writing them down and trying. I want to be remembered as the girl who always followed her dreams and learned from her failures. Yes following my dreams has resulted in many failures – but it has also resulted in me being happy knowing that I at least tried!

And because every blog post is better with a picture – here is a picture of my number one fan!

My Love for Adopted Animals Spills Over to My Business

September 23rd, 2011

It is no secret that I LOVE animals – specifically adopting dogs. It seems I can’t walk past an adoption center without coming home with a new family member! I have always brought cats and dogs home. It is no secret that I LOVE animals – specifically adopting dogs. It seems I can’t walk past an adoption center without coming home with a new family member!

I have always brought cats and dogs home. One day, in highschool, my boyfriend and I were at our local feed store buying food for my fish (yes I love those too!) and there were 2 black kittens being given away. We took them both – he got the boy and I got the girl. We went home and I told my mom that someone had hit the mama cat on the road and so we just HAD to take the kittens otherwise they might get hit by a car as well. She didn’t buy my story one bit – haha. But she did end up letting me keep the kitten.

Another time, the same boyfriend and I went to a dog shelter and adopted a dog. Again – I didn’t tell my parents. We picked the dog up in the city about 45 min away from home and went to Petsmart – wouldn’t you know it! My mom was shopping in the store next door and caught us! But in the end my mom fell in love with the pup and when I moved out of the country for awhile she became my mom’s rock through her cancer treatments.

My next pound pup was actually my mom’s doing! We were Christmas shopping and SHE suggested that we go in an look at the dogs up for adoption across from the bookstore. Yup – if you guessed that I came home with another dog – you were right. My mom told me to call my dad to make sure it was ok that I bring a dog home (I was living with them at the time) – he didn’t pick up the phone but I told her he said it was ok :)

Are you sensing a theme here? A year or so ago I picked up another pup from SPCA. I knew my mom was going to go into shock so to tell her and dad I sent them a powerpoint presentation to introduce the newest member to my family.

I have adopted a total of 3 cats and 3 dogs from the pound, a shelter, or the SPCA. I love giving these forgotten animals a safe and loving home. And the joy they bring to my family is priceless.

(this is a screen shot from the skype conversation with my mom introducing her to the newest member – Peanut, the dog in my left hand – my husband was in the background trying to convince them that he tried to say no to a new dog – but we all know he wanted her as much as I did haha)

So how does my love for animals impact my business? That is what this post is supposed to about right? Well – starting this month, a percentage of every wedding booked will be donated to the Central Valley SPCA.

Age of Wheel of Fortune Contestants

This post has nothing related to photography – but I just have to say it!

Ok…are there any wheel of fortune fans out there? Has anyone else noticed that there doesn’t seem to be anyone over 60ish on the show?

My Father-In-Law – who is in his 70’s – went down and auditioned. Did an AMAZING job and solved his puzzle before anyone else. He is a great public speaker, has a degree in sociology and is a very intelligent man. I love going over to the in-laws and hearing stories of all the game shows he was on when my husband was a kid! And although he did a great job he wasn’t picked. Was it because of his age? Because he had gray hair? Who knows – but it seems like he was just dismissed because of his age!

Doesn’t Wheel of Fortune know that older people are just as smart and fun to have on the show as younger ones?
